Beyond Watching and Searching: Benchmarking Agents for Video-centered Deep Research Reports

HF ★ 6 · Jiahao Meng, Qize Yang, Yuxuan Wang… · HF Mirror

Existing evaluation benchmarks for deep research agents do not cover video-centric research scenarios. This paper proposes a video-centric deep research report generation task, accompanied by the OmniDR-Bench benchmark containing 50 Chinese and English tasks, as well as the Omni-ARTs evaluation system covering three dimensions including audio-visual localization. Tests on 18 agent configurations show the highest score is only 63.3, indicating that existing models still have obvious shortcomings in cross-modal logical analysis, citation accuracy and other aspects.

LaLa-World: Scaling Latent World Models with Natural Language Actions

HF ★ 6 · Junha Song, Geonmo Gu, Jeongeun Park… · HF Mirror

This paper proposes LaLa-World, a language-conditioned latent world model, which achieves cross-domain training through two core designs: converting numerical actions and visual changes into unified language representations, and building a predictor based on large language models that can integrate multi-source data including simulation, robot trajectories, image-text and video. Its planning performance outperforms similar single-domain models, reducing training cost by 5/6 and increasing planning speed by 13.9x compared to the RAEv2 baseline; the derived LaLa-Policy matches the performance of state-of-the-art models on robot tasks, with inference speed up to 5.5x faster.

To Keep or Not to Keep: Learning KV Cache Retention in Disaggregated LLM Serving Systems

Dong Liu, Yanxuan Yu, Eric Jiang…

To address the problem that traditional KV cache in disaggregated LLM deployment does not consider cross-node transmission overhead and easily wastes memory and bandwidth, this paper proposes KVLearn, a learning-based KV cache retention framework that does not require modifying model weights, and can make dynamic decisions combining prefix reuse probability, multi-dimensional costs and real-time load. Tests show its first token latency is reduced by up to 56%, cross-node transmission volume is reduced by up to 53%, and multimodal throughput is close to the ideal value.

Interaction-Gated Time-Frequency Learning for Parameter-Efficient PPG-Based Heart Rate Estimation

Anh Khoi Pham, Phat Lam, Thien Truong Nguyen Ly…

To solve the pain points that photoplethysmography (PPG) heart rate estimation is susceptible to interference, and lightweight models struggle to efficiently integrate complementary time-frequency information, this paper proposes the parameter-efficient TF-IG framework: dual branches extract time-domain pulse morphology features and frequency-domain heartbeat cycle features respectively, which are adaptively fused through an interaction gating module, and output results via a shared regression head. On the BIDMC benchmark dataset, it achieves a MAE as low as 1.227 BPM with only 84.6K parameters, realizing a good balance between accuracy and lightweight design.

Reinforcement learning for hardware acceleration and system-level optimization on FPGA and integrated-circuit platforms: A survey

Hamza Kheddar

This is a survey focusing on reinforcement learning (RL) hardware acceleration and system-level optimization on FPGA and integrated circuit (IC) platforms. It sorts out more than 100 related studies, classifies them by dimensions such as RL algorithm category, hardware implementation path, and application field, breaking through the limitation of existing surveys that only focus on a single algorithm or platform. It uniformly analyzes RL deployment solutions for the two types of platforms, evaluates performance in terms of resources, latency, power consumption, etc., points out existing bottlenecks and research directions, and provides systematic reference for related R&D.

Build more responsive apps with the Decisions API

OpenAI

This research addresses the pain point of decision efficiency in application development, launching the Decisions API support tool for various applications. The tool has core advantages of fast decision response speed, accurate scenario adaptation, and low invocation cost. Developers do not need to self-develop complex decision logic modules, and can directly integrate it to quickly build highly responsive applications, significantly reducing development costs, shortening launch cycles, and adapting to decision-making needs in multiple scenarios.

What FDE means at OpenAI

OpenAI

This is OpenAI’s official explanation of its internal Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) position. The core function of this role is to connect core LLM R&D with industrial implementation needs, go deep into customer business scenarios to sort out customized pain points of LLM implementation, output adapted implementation solutions, and simultaneously feed back real industrial needs to the core R&D team. It is a key technical role that connects the entire chain of LLM from laboratory to commercial implementation.

Anthropic News

Announcements

Anthropic

This announcement discloses the core positioning and R&D direction of AI company Anthropic: the company is a research institution deeply engaged in the field of AI safety, with the core R&D goal of building artificial intelligence systems that combine high reliability, interpretability, and controllability. All technology R&D takes safety first as the core criterion, aiming to explore risk-controllable general AI implementation paths and provide practical references for the safe development of the industry.

Investing in the public benefit

Anthropic

AI company Anthropic officially committed to establishing a new public benefit fund, allocating part of the company’s shares to this independent entity. The fund has a special equity structure, and its shareholding ratio will increase synchronously with the expansion of the company’s operating scale. This move aims to tilt the benefits of AI commercialization more directly to the public sector, and explore a new governance model for profitable AI enterprises to bind public responsibilities.

Beyond tree cover: mapping the world’s forest types

Google DeepMind

This research breaks through the previous limitation of only counting forest coverage. Relying on high-resolution earth observation data, it labels the vegetation attributes of all global land parcels in units of 10 meters, and draws the world’s first high-precision full-category forest type distribution map. The result makes up for the previous shortcomings of coarse granularity and insufficient accuracy in global forest classification, and can provide core basic data support for scenarios such as forest carbon sink accounting, biodiversity protection, and fine management of forestry resources.

Accelerating the search for antimicrobial peptides with Google Antigravity

Google DeepMind

The current crisis of drug-resistant bacteria continues to intensify, and new antimicrobial peptides are one of the core sources of candidate drugs for drug-resistant infection treatment, but traditional experimental screening has low throughput and long cycles, limiting R&D efficiency. This research proposes to use Google’s Antigravity tool for scientific research scenarios to optimize the entire process of antimicrobial peptide sequence screening and activity prediction, which can greatly accelerate the discovery of new antimicrobial peptides and provide an efficient AI-assisted path for the R&D of anti-drug-resistant bacteria drugs.

Turning Database Grading into RL Rewards: Post-Training Agents with ThinkingBox

Hugging Face

This research addresses the pain points of high cost and poor adaptability of manual design of reinforcement learning reward functions, proposing to directly map database automatic scoring results to reinforcement learning reward signals, and building the ThinkingBox module to perform post-hoc fine-tuning on pre-trained agents. This method does not require additional manual reward labeling. On multiple types of database interaction and sequential decision-making tasks, agent performance is improved by more than 18% compared to the baseline, training cost is reduced by 40%, and it can quickly adapt to agent optimization needs in vertical scenarios.

Harness Engineering for Self-Improvement

Lilian Weng

This paper sorts out the conceptual evolution of Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI): In 1965, I.J. Good proposed the idea of ultra-intelligent machines, referring to systems whose capabilities surpass all human intellectual activities and can design better machines to complete self-upgrades; in 2008, Eliezer Yudkowsky defined RSI as a feedback loop where AI iterates its own cognitive architecture relying on existing intelligence. In the current AI context, RSI can refer to the model directly rewriting its own weights, or broadly cover the behavior of the model optimizing its own training process.
