Socratic Skill Learning: Interleaving Teaching and Practice for Transferable Agent Skills

HF ★ 21 · Letian Zhu, Han Li, Yifan Yao… · HF Mirror

Addressing the pain point of insufficient verification of applicable conditions in transferable skill learning for LLM agents, the Socratic Skill Learning (SSL) method is proposed, which alternately integrates expert guidance and independent agent practice, allowing agents to independently complete environment interaction and skill adaptation. Verification on the newly built SkillTransferBench benchmark shows that the optimized question-guided SSL achieves a utility score of 0.805, outperforming existing distillation-based baselines, and the token cost for expert interaction is reduced by 61.7% compared to the basic version.

Looking Ahead: Modeling Future Evolution in Autoregressive Video Generation

HF ★ 13 · Ruopeng Gao, Yukun Huang, Jiarui Hu… · HF Mirror

To address the issue that during block-by-block generation of autoregressive video diffusion, teacher forcing training tends to rely on temporal redundancy to take the shortcut of local continuity, failing to effectively model scene evolution, this paper proposes the Future Chunk Prediction (FCP) auxiliary objective, which requires no additional pretrained encoder. When optimized jointly with the original objective, it asks the model to skip intermediate frames and predict distant chunks. This method generates videos with better physical plausibility with lower training computing power, and can also learn more structured representations, supporting the research and development of autoregressive world models.

AgenticRoboRL: Bringing Coding-Agent Post-Training to Agentic Robotics

HF ★ 12 · Xinxin Liu, Bingxin Xu, Wenrui Bao… · HF Mirror

Addressing the problem that existing agent robotic systems rely on closed-source LLMs as planners and do not optimize the capability of the planner itself, this paper proposes the AgenticRoboRL framework, which adopts a solution of supervised fine-tuning plus multi-round reinforcement learning, equipped with a toolchain-specific adaptation layer to fit different execution mechanisms, enabling post-training of planners across execution endpoints. On LIBERO-PRO, the success rate of the 9B-parameter planner increased from 18.1% to 71%, close to the level of Codex with external storage, verifying the effectiveness of the solution, and relevant resources will be open-sourced.

High-dimensional layer-state trajectories reveal the internal dynamics of transformer inference

Heng Zhao, Yufei Wang, Ruidian Song…

Addressing the limitation that previous LLM mechanism research only locates functional components and does not characterize inference dynamics, this study, verified on multiple mainstream LLMs, analyzes the high-dimensional layer-state trajectories of Transformer inference, confirming that layer order is a general computing scaffold for architecture adaptation rather than a training-specific product. Internal trajectories can be precisely regulated via local actuators and confidence gates without interfering with normal output, providing a feasible path for inference observation and intervention.

Steerable Pluralistic Policy Alignment from Anonymized Crowd Feedback

Akansha Kalra, Ellen R. Novoseller, Vernon J. Lawhern…

Addressing the problem that existing AI pluralistic preference alignment requires obtaining annotator identities and has high computing cost, this paper proposes the P3L framework, which does not require annotator identities, and jointly learns trajectory embeddings and shared bases for preference directions from anonymous crowd feedback via PCA. Experiments on multiple embodied control tasks show that this method can quickly achieve personalized alignment, generalize to out-of-distribution new users, meet performance requirements while significantly reducing costs, and adapt to different query budgets.

Expert-Guided Rubrics as Dense Reward Signals for Reinforcement Learning in Non-Verifiable Domains

Ashish Bansal, Hossam Amer, Keerat Kaur Guliani…

For LLM agents in non-verifiable domains such as finance, traditional reinforcement learning relies on binary rewards for verifiable tasks, and sparse expert graded rewards easily lead to stagnation in GRPO algorithm optimization. This study proposes converting a small number of expert-formulated scoring rules into dense rewards, combined with retrieval metrics to generate hybrid training signals adapted for GRPO. Experiments show that compared to the sparse reward baseline, its Recall@3 is improved by up to 6%, and MRR@3 is increased by 6.7%.

Harness Engineering for Self-Improvement

Lilian Weng

This article sorts out the conceptual context and current implementation directions of Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI): In 1965, I.J. Good proposed the idea of ultra-intelligent machines, that is, agents that can surpass all human intellectual activities and iteratively design better systems; in 2008, Eliezer Yudkowsky clearly defined RSI as a feedback loop where AI optimizes its own cognitive mechanism relying on existing intelligence. Currently, RSI in the AI field can be divided into two types of paths: directly rewriting its own weights, or optimizing its own training pipeline in a broad sense.
