Hugging Face Daily Papers

DoSA: Dots Sparse Attention

HF ★ 24 · Fanxu Meng, Taosong Fang · HF Mirror

To address the redundancy issue of existing sparse attention methods that still require traversing all keys for scoring, this paper proposes DoSA, a lossless sparse attention method: without calculating scores for all candidates, it first filters out candidates that clearly do not meet the Top-K requirements via upper and lower score bounds, and only scores the remaining candidates fully, ensuring completely lossless selection results. Its GPU implementation delivers up to 2.74x speedup for indexers across multiple scenarios, and up to 1.94x speedup for end-to-end first token generation.

LeWAM: End-to-End World and Action Modeling with JEPAs

HF ★ 22 · Minghao Fu, Tavis Siebert, Eryk Halicki… · HF Mirror

To address the flaw of existing Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture (JEPA) that uses staged training and is hard to adapt to control tasks end-to-end, this paper proposes LeWAM, an end-to-end control framework: it adopts a joint training objective of latent state prediction + action flow matching, applies isotropic Gaussian constraints to latent states, and a single model can support both policy execution and efficient planning. Compared with existing JEPA, its success rate on contact-intensive tasks rises to 89.7%, to 46.2% on long-sequence tasks, planning speed is 32x faster, and its behavior cloning performance is on par with mainstream methods.

Harness^2: Recursive Agent Harnessing for an Open World

HF ★ 13 · Ruiyao Xu, Yanfei Chen, Zhongying CuiZhu… · HF Mirror

To address the pain point that recursive self-improvement solutions for LLM agent execution frameworks lack ground truth verification guidance and have poor generalization in open scenarios, this paper proposes the Harness² dual recursive framework: at the task layer, it optimizes the current task framework without ground truth via the “proposal-detection-composition” comparison process; at the framework layer, it recursively accumulates optimization experience to adapt to future tasks. Cross-model and cross-benchmark tests show that single-step optimization brings up to 11.8 percentage points of improvement, and increasing the recursion budget can further boost performance.

UltraBERT: Beyond the Limit of BERT Pre-Training

HF ★ 11 · Jungwoo Park, Taewhoo Lee, Jaewoo Kang · HF Mirror

Existing bidirectional encoder pretraining still follows small model paradigms, and no single model can deliver excellent performance on both classification and retrieval tasks at the same time. To solve this problem, researchers identified three core pretraining rules, based on which they proposed UltraBERT: it sets dedicated prediction heads for high and low masking rates in the same batch, and introduces distillation constraints only to the low masking rate branch. It is the first single encoder that achieves SOTA on both GLUE (91.0) and BEIR (47.7) benchmarks, and also provides principled reference for bidirectional model pretraining optimization.

ClawLoop: Self-Improving Agents via Harness-Native Training Loop

HF ★ 6 · Hansi Yang, Linji Hao, Hongyan Hao… · HF Mirror

To address the flaw that LLM agent training in existing harness environments relies on external strong models and has no room for self-improvement, this paper proposes the ClawLoop self-evolution framework, which requires no external teacher model and iteratively optimizes via a closed loop of task synthesis-training-diagnostic feedback. Tests show that this framework enables the Qwen 27B model to continuously improve across multiple benchmarks, and the generated training tasks can also be transferred to smaller Qwen 4B and 9B models for performance gains, verifying the validity of the data. Harness Engineering for Self-Improvement

Lilian Weng

This paper focuses on the research of governance engineering for Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI) of AI, and sorts out the evolution of the RSI concept: as early as 1965, Good first proposed that superhuman intelligent systems can independently design better machines to achieve iteration; in 2008, Yudkowsky clarified that its core is the feedback loop where AI optimizes its own cognitive mechanism relying on existing capabilities; contemporary AI RSI can be implemented through two paths: directly rewriting weights and optimizing training pipelines.
